Les As de l’info isn’t for parents!

But… we’re happy to welcome you and introduce our project!

Les As de l’info is a French-only news website for all kids who speak French, no matter where they live in the world. This platform, which explains the news to kids every day, is a full-fledged media outlet and a part of les Coops de l’information, a network that includes six other daily newspapers: le Soleil, le Nouvelliste, le Droit, le Quotidien, la Tribune, and la Voix de l'Est.

News that helps kids grow!

Les As de l’info is a reliable source of information! The team is made up of journalists who specialize in explaining the news, as well as experts in education and youth media. Every day, current headlines are explained to kids to help them make sense of what’s going on—whether they hear about it on the car radio, in the schoolyard, on TV, or online. Every word is carefully chosen, sentences are short, and paragraphs are clearly structured with titles that help young readers find answers to their questions.

It’s not complicated!

Our website was designed and produced by specialists in children’s content. Everything has been carefully planned to make the experience as smooth as possible, from navigation to text comprehension.

Several tools are available to help children with their reading. They can use a glossary for difficult words. These words are highlighted in each article. When a child hovers over a highlighted word, a definition appears. They can also look up words anytime through the glossary tab.

An audio reading option is offered for children who might find reading more difficult. When the child activates this function, they hear the article being read aloud and can read along. Studies show that audio support doesn’t make kids lazy—it can actually boost their motivation to keep reading.

Illustrations, photos, and maps are also included to help with understanding and make reading more fun and engaging.

Is it free?

Absolutely! The kids’ section is free for all children, no matter where they live.

So why do they have to sign up?

The site allows kids to comment, react to news with emojis, take part in contests and opinion polls, and more. To do this, we ask kids to register. It’s a way to let them know our rules, to build a sense of belonging, and to create a real community of curious kids! It’s also a trick to get them to ask their parents for permission to sign up.

Is it safe?

Les As de l’info is very safe—much safer than YouTube and many of the other sites kids visit. A child’s personal information is never published. Kids interact on the site using a nickname and an avatar, so their real identity is protected.

Our site is a secure space where children can get informed, share, comment, and ask questions within a closed, moderated environment that is monitored several times a day. We don’t allow any external links. A full-time community manager ensures that comments follow our usage guidelines and identifies users who may have questions or need support.

Is this a school site?

No, our platform is a news media outlet, designed to spark kids’ interest in the world around them. We do offer a section for teachers who want to use our content in the classroom. A wonderful team creates educational activities aligned with elementary learning goals. You can tell your child’s teacher about it! But the section meant for children doesn’t include schoolwork—it’s all about learning for fun!

Why inform kids at such a young age?

Because kids are curious citizens! They deserve to have the news and current events explained to them—events that affect their world too. During the pandemic, we asked young people to act as responsible citizens. They wore masks, followed rules, and contributed to the collective effort against COVID-19—while also dealing with the consequences themselves.

So, it only makes sense that we inform them properly and give them tools to develop critical thinking and civic awareness.

Isn’t the news too anxiety-inducing?

Kids hear about the news in all kinds of ways—and it's not always adapted for them. Many studies show that anxiety increases when a situation is hard to understand. Our goal is to give kids the tools they need to make sense of what’s happening—so they don’t jump to worst-case scenarios that feed their anxiety. We carefully review all our content to avoid language or images that could be traumatic. Instead, our approach provides context and always offers ideas for reflection or solutions.

We don’t know everything—but we’re well supported!

We work with a team of consultants whenever a topic requires extra care. Child psychologists, social workers, educators, and children’s philosophers are just some of the experts we consult whenever we tackle sensitive topics.

Media and information literacy are essential tools to help decode the news. By introducing children to reliable information, we’re helping them build a foundation to avoid misinformation and, most importantly, teaching them to form opinions based on verified facts.

Their curiosity is a superpower!

The team behind Les As de l’info proudly stands with kids. We truly believe that young people are part of the solution for building a better world! We take our mission to inform them seriously. And we’re always here to answer your questions as parents—don’t hesitate to reach out!
